Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) program was launched by the Canadian Government to help Canadian institutions attract highly qualified doctoral students. Valued at $50,000 per year for three years during doctoral studies, the scholarships will be given considering three equally weighted section criteria: academic excellence, research potential, and leadership. These scholarships are aimed at Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign students who wish to study in doctoral level with one of the following areas of research:

  • Health research
  • Natural sciences and/or engineering research
  • Social sciences and humanities research

Up to 166 scholarships are awarded annually, although the numbers are subject to change depending on the available amount of funds. Should more funds become more available, additional scholarships may be awarded.

Candidates must be nominated by a Canadian institution with a quota (i.e., a predetermined number of applications that can be put forward to the national competition) to host Vanier scholars. Candidates should only seek a nomination from the institution at which they want to study.

For more information, visit the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships’ website.
